At Monday’s meeting of the Nairnshire Area Committee (24 November 2025), approval was secured to enable the Nairn Improvement Community Enterprise (NICE) to take the lead organisation role in delivering two key community projects of behalf of Highland Council.
Under this arrangement, NICE, who already act as the lead organisation in developing the Local Place Plan (LPP), will assume responsibility for feasibility & design studies regarding the Nairn Links Toilets project and the Nairn Riverside Development Plan project with the Council’s oversight and governance.
Chairman of the Nairnshire Area Committee, Cllr Michael Green, welcomed the agreement and said: “These are two vitally important projects for Nairnshire and once the transfer formally takes place, I am sure that this will play a key role in enabling a stronger community-led approach aligned with the priorities identified in Nairn’s Local Place Plan.
“Over the coming weeks, work will be undertaken to formally and legally implement this transfer of responsibility and we look forward to seeing the projects delivered collaboratively and reflecting the local priorities of the community stakeholders and Local Place Plan.”
Both projects successfully secured funding from the Community Regeneration Fund when considered and agreed by the Nairnshire Area Committee in August 2025.
Nairn Links Toilets - £45,000
This project seeks to produce design options for the re-development of the toilets into a modern fully accessible facility. Accessibility will be a key feature of the designs by including in the proposals for the toilets to serve as an accessibility hub, incorporating a Changing Places toilet.
Nairn Riverside Development Plan - £30,000
The Nairn Riverside Development Plan aspires to make the Nairn Riverside area a better place for people, nature, and the community. This project will help create a space that is welcoming and safe for everyone; good for wildlife and the environment; fun and healthy for people of all ages and, finally, connected to local history and culture.
