The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
Highland Council road conditions report for Wednesday 3 December is as follows:
Ross and Cromarty East (as at 07:47)
Road surface temperatures below on selected routes with the dip at daylight bringing with it expected grey frost. High residual salt levels on primary and secondary routes are sufficient to hold. No overnight issues reported.
Caithness (as at 08:14)
Road surface temperatures marginal with routes likely to fall below at daylight. Damp roads with a white frost and icy stretches. Treating primary and secondary routes. No overnight issues to report.
Sutherland (as at 08:07)
Mainly damp roads across the area with the odd sparkle in places. Primary and secondary routes are being treated as required, as well as footpaths.
Skye and Raasay (as at 07:17)
No winter action due to mild temperatures. No known overnight issues reported
Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh (as ay 06:58)
Sub-zero road surface temperatures were experienced across Ward 5 throughout the night, leading to the need for a handful of ploughs being launched first thing to mitigate this. There are no known issues at the time of posting.
Lochaber (as at 09:13)
No winter treatments were required as forecasted. Temperatures dipped overnight on some routes for a brief marginal period but rose quickly thereafter. No other road-related issues have been reported.
Nairn (as at 06:37)
Wet roads with temperatures higher than forecast. Primary and secondary routes being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.
Inverness (as at 09:28)
East side with low road surface temperatures this morning with some grey frost around. Covering east routes and town footpaths. Also covering A833 and A831 despite forecast showing no issues due to public reports of ice on road. Will monitor and deploy as needed until temperatures recover.
Badenoch and Strathspey (as at 06:36)
Temperatures higher than forecast. Primary and secondary routes being treated as well as footpaths. No known overnight issues.
