Corran Ferry Update – Maid of Glencoul returns to service 19 December 2025

Published: 19 December 2025

The Maid of Glencoul has returned to service on the Corran Ferry route

The Highland Council is pleased to confirm that the Maid of Glencoul has returned to service on the Corran Ferry route following two days of successful sea trials and operating approval by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). The vessel resumed service at 2pm today (Friday 19 December 2025), and the normal timetable applies with immediate effect.

Please note that the Maid of Glencoul has a smaller vehicle carrying capacity and a slightly longer crossing time than the MV Corran. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys. During this period, Dangerous Goods cannot be transported, and details of HGV restrictions are available on the Corran Ferry (external link) website (external link). Live traffic webcams of the Corran Ferry queues can be viewed here (external link) to assist with journey planning.

Real-time service updates can be found via @CorranFerry on X (Twitter) and on Facebook. We encourage all passengers to check these channels before travelling.

MV Corran Update

The main vessel, MV Corran, remains in dry dock for its annual service and refit. The current completion programme remains early 2026, with a more definitive timeline expected in January. Parts for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment required for emergent repairs identified during dry dock are subject to lead-time challenges. Every effort is being made to accelerate delivery and ensure the MV Corran returns to service as soon as possible.

The service will not operate on Thursday 25 or Friday 26 December 2025 and Thursday 1 and Friday 2 January 2026, due to festive closure.

The Highland Council apologises for the disruption over the past four days and extends thanks to our third-party operators for providing timely alternative foot passenger services during this period.
