Beauly Primary School public consultation approved
‘A public consultation on relocating Beauly Primary School to a new site, paving the way for a modern build as part of the Highland Investment Plan, will begin soon.’
Members of The Highland Council’s Education Committee agreed today (Wednesday, 19 November 2025) to begin a statutory consultation under the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 on a proposal to relocate Beauly Primary School to a new site west of Cnoc na Ràth, Beauly.
Education Committee Chair, Cllr John Finlayson said: “This is a positive step forward for the young learners of Beauly. Today’s decision moves us a step closer to delivering a modern school that meets the needs of pupils and the wider community. Relocating to a new site will allow construction to take place without disrupting learning at the current school.
“We expect the consultation process to conclude with a recommendation to the Education Committee around April 2026, although this may change to ensure all views are fully considered. In the meantime, much of the planning work can run alongside the consultation, so we can keep momentum and make progress at pace.
“I look forward to hearing the views of the Beauly community and encourage people to take part in the consultation.”
Beauly Primary School and Nursery currently serve children aged 3–12, with 113 pupils and 20 nursery children. The existing buildings, dating from the late 19th century, are rated ‘C – Poor’ for both condition and suitability, with limited outdoor space and facilities that do not adequately support education delivery.
Since November 2021, the Council has engaged with the Parent Council, Community Council, local Members, and Officers to explore replacement options. Although an application for Learning Estate Investment Funding (LEIP) in 2023 was unsuccessful, the development of the Highland Investment Programme has created a new opportunity to progress plans for a replacement school.
The statutory consultation will begin shortly, starting with a public meeting to discuss the proposal. Stakeholders will have the opportunity to submit views before and after the meeting, ahead of any final recommendation and decision.
Further details, including dates and how to participate, will be published on The Highland Council’s website in due course.
