Land at Stadium Road, Inverness, adjacent to Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club ground is subject to statutory consultation.

The Highland Council has today 5 February 2026 launched a statutory Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 consultation giving the Inverness residents until 2 April 2026 to respond to a change of use proposal affecting common good land.

The area of land subject to the consultation is located at Stadium Road in Inverness, adjacent to the Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club ground.

The property is currently leased however it remains undeveloped.  The tenant is seeking to assign the remainder of the lease to a new occupier and to broaden the permitted uses of land so that it may be further developed.  This would bring the permitted uses of the property into line with other common good land leases within the Longman Industrial Estate.  While longer-term development options for the site continue to be considered, the property is expected to be used initially as laydown space for storage purposes.

For the remainder of the lease period, the Inverness Common Good Fund would benefit from increased rental income, reflecting the enhanced development potential of the land under the applicable planning use classes.

The Council is keen to hear from Inverness residents regarding the change of use proposal.  All submissions will be given full regard before a decision is taken.  Should the Council decide to support the request following the consultation, it must apply to the Sheriff Court to obtain the necessary consent.

The consultation representations and responses including the final decision will be published on the Council’s website.

This consultation is specifically in relation to the statutory requirements relating to   common good.  Should the proposal progress, additional statutory consents such as those relating to planning will still be required

The consultation documents and information on the process to dispose or change the use of common good property are available on the Council’s website.

Please submit written responses by close of day midnight on 2 April 2026 either by:
