40mph speed limit introduced for Glentruim to Catlodge road.

Members of Highland Council’s Badenoch and Strathspey Committee have today approved the introduction of a 40mph speed limit on the C1137 Glentruim to Catlodge road.

The new speed limit forms part of a ‘Quiet Route’ scheme being implemented to improve road safety for local residents and road users.

Chair of the Badenoch and Strathspey Committee, Councillor Russell Jones, said: “Following concerns raised by residents about unsafe driving and excessive speeds on the C1137, our roads team requested the introduction of a ‘Quiet Route’ scheme. This scheme is designed to create safer, more pleasant roads by reducing traffic speeds and collision risks, raising awareness of active travel use in the area and making routes safer for vulnerable road users.

“After a local consultation, it has been agreed that a 40mph speed limit will also be introduced to support this scheme and in the interests of road safety. I’m pleased that we will have new measures in place to create a safer road environment for all road users and hope that the scheme will encourage more walking, wheeling and cycling by providing calmer, low-stress routes. Thank you to everyone who took part in the consultation and supported the scheme.”

The new 40mph signage will soon be installed alongside Quiet Scheme signage which will encourage drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and equestrians to ‘Share Space’ on the road.
