Highland Council winter road conditions for 19 January 2026

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Skye & Raasay (as at 07:12)

Mild temperatures this morning with no winter action necessary.  No other known issues reported overnight.

Mid and East Ross, and Black Isle (as at 10:44)

A very cold morning with lots of grey frost and ice across the network. All routes currently being treated according to the policy. Surface temperatures are not expected to rise much above zero today so ice will be possible on any untreated surfaces.

Sutherland (as at 08:09)

All primary and secondary routes treated this morning.  Hard frost and black ice in places.  Mostly damp roads.  Treating as per policy.

Caithness (as at 08:00)

All Primary and Secondary routes being treated this morning, a couple of reports of black ice on secondary inland routes.  No other known issues to report.

Nairn (as at 08:22)

Negative temperatures throughout the area this morning with frost and ice covering the network. All routes as well as footpaths being treated. No known overnight issues.

Badenoch & Strathspey (as at 08:22)

Negative temperatures throughout the area this morning with frost and ice covering the network. All routes as well as footpaths being treated. No known overnight issues.

 

Inverness (as at 06:05)


Road surface temperatures well below zero and black ice in places.  Routes being treated in line with policy.

 

Lochaber (as at 09:47)

Higher temperatures than forecast.  High road surface temperatures – no other overnight issues.
