Roads update for Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh

The scheme list is proposed as a rolling programme, with delivery subject to available funding.

Members of Highland Council's Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh Committee have been given an update on the proposed programme of surface treatment works for the area roads capital allocation for 2026/27 onwards.

Yesterday (Monday 19 January) members of the committee were told that the scheme list is proposed as a rolling programme, with delivery subject to available funding.

The Council has also not yet received the latest Scottish Road Maintenance Condition Survey results, which may necessitate revisions to the programme.

This approach supports the Road Services improvement priority of maintaining an annual rolling programme for capital investment, aligned with the Council’s ‘Our Future Highland’ strategic commitment to improving road condition and maintenance.

Top of the priority list for works is overlay on the A890 between Auchtertyre and Stromeferry.

Number two is a section of the C1091 between Applecross and Shieldaig, and third is work on the U3005 at Mains of Fairburn, Marybank.

Also included in the project list are proposed schemes at Gairloch, Poolewe and Loch Clair.

Other items on the agenda at Monday’s meeting included

  • A police area performance report delivered Chief Inspector David McAlpine, Area Commander for the North Highland Area.
  • An update on garage rent levels.
  • The Housing Repairs and Capital Report which noted a strong performance in the average response time to dealing with both emergency and non-emergency repairs.
  • The committee also heard that the Housing Investment Team had worked closely with the Climate Change and Energy Team to identify and access external funding opportunities.
  • Through ECO4 funding, 44 properties across Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh have received fully funded energy efficiency measures.
