Highland Opportunity (Investments) Limited (HOIL) has recently provided loan assistance to JS Seafood to enable the acquisition and development of an established seafood delivery business serving  Skye and Lochalsh in the West Highlands.

HOIL, The Highland Council’s business loan company, offers flexible financial support to Highland-based businesses and community organisations, delivering straightforward loan conditions and tailored packages designed to help businesses and organisations realise their ambitions.

JS Seafood approached HOIL for financial assistance to purchase an existing seafood delivery business with a well-established customer base and delivery route across the West Highlands. This investment ensures continuity of access to premium Scottish seafood for local communities, wholesale clients and restaurants. The business also plans to modernise seafood distribution through new digital platforms, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting future growth.

Juan Santos, operating as JS Seafood, brings experience from his years working within the seafood industry, supported by strong supplier relationships and sector expertise. Recognising the opportunity to acquire a trusted delivery business with a solid local route, Juan, who lives in Kyle, has taken forward the operation as a sole trader delivering premium Scottish seafood. His short‑term plans include developing a digital platform - featuring a website and mobile app - to allow customers to place, schedule, and repeat orders, improving customer retention and streamlining operations.

Chair of HOIL, Councillor Jackie Hendry, said:  "I am delighted that we are able to help JS Seafood take on an established seafood delivery service in the West Highlands.  With the loan provided Juan Santos can now continue with the familiar route and provide a wonderful seafood delivery service in that area, having had many years’ experience in the seafood industry under his belt.  We wish him every success with his new venture."

Juan Santos said: “I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the HOIL team for their unwavering support throughout this process. I am thrilled to take on this established seafood delivery service, which allows me to continue providing our communities with the highest quality Scottish seafood. This acquisition represents not just a business opportunity but a commitment to enhancing local access to fresh sustainable products. With plans to implement new digital platforms, I aim to streamline the ordering process and strengthen customer relationships, ensuring that our valued clients can enjoy premium seafood with ease and convenience.”

Councillor Hendry added: “The Opportunity Fund from HOIL provides accessible and affordable finance for start-ups and growing businesses across the Highlands and is one of several funds we can use to help projects across the area.”
