Works to repair the pier in Portree are to get underway later this month.

Highland Council has awarded a £1.2 million contract to Mackenzie Construction for the repair of the existing pier.

The work will include concrete deck repairs, repairs to the hexagonal piles and berthing face piles as well as cathodic protection of the steelwork.

The works will start on the 23rd of March 2026 for a period of 24 weeks.

Cllr John Finlayson, chair of Highland Council’s Isle of Skye and Raasay Committee, said: “It is good to hear that this contract has been announced and after hosting a meeting recently with officers from many other services, I look forward to partnership working taking place between the council and the contractor to tackle other challenges that require attention at the harbour.”

Vice chair of the Isle of Skye and Raasay committee, Cllr Drew Millar, said: “I welcome the award of a contract for this work at the Portree harbour, and I am sure the Portree Community Council and Harbour Users’ group will also welcome the news of improvements.”

Andy Dalrymple, Managing Director at Mackenzie Construction, said: “Having worked across the Highlands and Islands for many years, Mackenzie Construction is delighted to be partnering with Highland Council to support essential infrastructure on the Isle of Skye."
