Update issued 2 June 2026 at 16:20
Nairn High Street is now open with a narrowed lane. Traffic management will still be in place, but traffic can now flow through. There will be further investigations/repairs on Wednesday 2 June and a further closure may have to be imposed while these works are continuing. We'd like to thank motorists for their patience.
After further investigations into a sinkhole at the corner of Douglas Street and Nairn High Street, The Highland Council has no option but to impose a road closure on the B9090 Nairn High Street (including Gordon Street and The Brae) beginning today (2 June 2026).
As investigations are still ongoing, we unfortunately cannot yet provide a timeframe for the works or the closure.
While we are aware of the inconvenience that this will cause, as well as the impact to businesses on the High Street, this decision has been made in the interest of public safety which in this instance is our primary concern.
The situation is still developing, but the area Roads team will keep locals informed of any updates.
We appreciate the patience of local residents and businesses while we work to resolve the situation.
