Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee has acknowledged the Cairngorms wildfire which has had a profound impact on the area and the communities in particularly - Glenmore and Nethy Bridge.
Committee Chair, Cllr Russell Jones said:
“On behalf of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee I would like to express our sincere thanks to all the fire fighters who worked tirelessly, often in extremely difficult and challenging conditions to bring the fire under control.
“I would also like to recognise the many local volunteers, land managers and farmers, game keepers and contractors and others who gave their time, expertise and equipment to support the response. Their contribution was absolutely invaluable.”
He added:
“In particular, I want to put on record our thanks to the community of Nethy Bridge. The decision to open the village hall and to provide food and support for the fire fighters was an outstanding example of a community coming together in a time of crisis that demonstrated the very best of the spirit of Badenoch and Strathspey.
“I know that many people remain concerned about the fire and its impact and there will be other forums in which to discuss these, but today I simply want to acknowledge what happened and above all to thank everyone who played their part.”
