Interim Community Council Elections – 1 Community Council to hold a postal ballot to elect Community Councillors

Following the withdrawal period for candidates, The Highland Council can now confirm that a postal ballot will be held to decide the membership of the Latheron, Lybster and Clyth Community Council.

Ballot papers with the candidate statements (where submitted by candidates) will be posted out to the eligible voters on Monday 21 September, 2026. The completed ballots must be returned by no later than 12noon on Thursday 8 October 2026.

Community Councillors shall be elected on a simple majority basis.  The successful candidates will be those with the highest number of votes, with the number of successful candidates equalling the number of vacancies.

14 Community Councils have formed: 

•         Berriedale and Dunbeath

•         Cradlehall and Westhill

•         Cromdale & Advie  

•         Dores & Essich

•         Fort Augustus & Glenmorriston

•         Glenfinnan

•         Hilton, Milton and Castle Heather

•         Inverness West

•         Knockbain

•         Kyleakin & Kylerhea

•         Nether Lochaber

•         Strathdearn

•         Strathnairn

•         Uig

5 Community Councils did not form as they failed to attract half of the maximum membership: 

•         Ardersier & Petty

•         Balintore and Hilton

•         Garve and District

•         Kinlochleven

•         South Knoydart
