Highland Council’s Waste Services team has been awarded the Best Team of the Year at the national  LARAC Conference Celebration Awards 2026 held in Birmingham last week (7 October).

Vice Chair of Communities and Place, Cllr Hugh Morrison said: “Congratulations to all staff who work in the Council’s Waste Service. This is a significant achievement and recognition of the hard work, dedication and commitment shown in delivering the Recycling Improvement Fund and maintaining high-quality services for our communities.

“This award provides national recognition of the professionalism, innovation and collaborative effort demonstrated by our in-house staff. It reflects the outstanding work undertaken across the service and the positive impact being delivered for residents throughout the Highlands.”

Highland Council’s Waste Services team of the year submission to LARAC recognised the exceptional effort and collaborative working across the entire service, ensuring the successful delivery of a project which transformed kerbside services for householders and businesses. The project not only aligns with future national waste policy but also demonstrates innovation to overcome geographical and financial challenges.

LARAC, The Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee, was formed in 1985 to represent the emerging voice of local government recycling officers. LARAC represents local authority views in waste and recycling issues.
