The Highland Council is advising passengers that the MV Corran will enter its annual refit at the beginning of November, with the Maid of Glencoul taking over as the relief vessel during this period.

Thursday 29 October 2026 will be the final day of service for the MV Corran before she departs for her scheduled annual refit. The Maid of Glencoul will enter service immediately, operating from Friday 30 October 2026 and will maintain the usual timetable.

Passengers are advised that the Maid of Glencoul has a smaller vehicle carrying capacity (approximately 14 vehicles), shorter and steeper ramps, and a slightly longer crossing time than the MV Corran. As a result, some vehicle restrictions will apply, particularly for HGVs, and customers are encouraged to check the latest guidance before travelling.

To help minimise disruption, passengers are encouraged to:

  • Allow extra time for journeys.
  • Avoid peak travel periods where possible.
  • Check live traffic cameras before travelling.
  • Review vehicle restrictions and timetable information on the Corran Ferry webpage.

Queue safety marshals will remain in place to assist passengers and help manage traffic flows.

Passengers are also reminded that temporary traffic lights remain in operation on the A82 at the Corran Ferry junction as part of the Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme (CFIIS) works.

Annual refit programme of works

This year's annual refit does not include any major overhauls of the vessel's main equipment. However, the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for the propulsion units is scheduled to replace a number components identified during the previous refit. This work is expected to be completed by the end of November and is intended to support the long-term reliability and resilience of the service.

In addition, minor modifications will be undertaken to the ferry crew access door arrangements to ensure compatibility with the new vessel berthing structure as part of the Corran Ferry Infrastructure Improvement Scheme.

Every effort is being made to complete the MV Corran's refit as quickly as possible while ensuring all required maintenance works are carried out.
