Key parking decisions made at Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee.

Members of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee are pleased to note the allocation of invitation to pay parking income from Ardvonie car park, Kingussie and the Village car park, Grantown on Spey to the respective local Common Good Funds.

Members were informed that the land upon which the two car parks are located had been identified in late 2025/26 as Common Good assets.

Since the invitation to pay scheme was introduced to Badenoch and Strathspey in 2023 the total income generated for the Kingussie Common Good  and Grantown on Spey Common Good (minus operational costs) over the past 3 years has been £8,477:

  • Ardvonie Carpark, Kingussie (£3,542);
  • Village Carpark, Grantown on Spey (£4,935).

Members welcomed the additional income to the Common Good Funds and noted that decisions on income generated from parking on Common Good land will be taken at meetings of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee.

Committee Chair, Councillor Russell Jones, said:

“Members welcome that the matter of rightful land ownership and income to the Common Good Funds has been confirmed and that arrangements are now in place to allocate parking income to the correct funds.

“The invitation to pay scheme has been successfully running for three years now and I’m pleased to see the scheme continuing to generate income that can be invested locally through clear arrangements. All future Badenoch and Strathspey parking income will be reinvested in local and area-wide projects aligned with the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Place Plan, using established Ward Discretionary Fund governance arrangements.”

Other income in Badenoch and Strathspey at pay and display and invitation to pay car parks owned or managed by Highland Council was noted by Members as they welcomed the £12,717 earmarked funds generated for the area in 2025/26.

Members agreed that the income will be used to support key local priorities highlighted in the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Place Plan with:

  • 50% of the earmarked funds generated will be allocated to projects located in the immediate vicinity of the car park generating the income; and
  • the remaining 50% will be allocated to support projects throughout Badenoch and Strathspey Ward area.

Funding requests will follow the same process as the Ward Discretionary Fund applications.
