Members of the Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee have agreed to recommend to The Highland Council that the Freedom of Grantown-on-Spey be conferred upon Dr Jean Munro.

The recommendation is in recognition of her outstanding wartime service, distinguished academic achievements, and exceptional contribution to the heritage and community life of Grantown-on-Spey.

Committee Chair, Councillor Russell Jones said:

“It is an honour to support this recommendation and all local councillors have unanimously agreed to support the proposal to confer the Freedom of Grantown-on-Spey on Dr Munro in recognition of her exceptional service to her country, her distinguished contribution to Scottish history and heritage, and her longstanding association with the town."

Convenor of the Council, Cllr Bill Lobban added:

“If ever there was a generation that deserved recognition its this one. Dr Munro has spent her entire lifetime in the service of the public and it’s fitting that we recognise that.”

The recommendation will now be presented to a meeting of The Highland Council for consideration.
