Eligibility and how to apply
Who can apply
You may be able to apply if:
- you have owned a property for two years or more (if you have inherited a property this may be less)
- the property has been empty for 12 months or more
- the property is located within the Highland Council area
- you or any co-owners have no existing Highland Council debt
- you intend to live in the property as your main home, or rent it out as a main residence at the recommended Mid-Market Rent rate for a minimum of 5 years
You must also:
- have the legal right to carry out the works
- be able to demonstrate that the property will be brought back into use within 3 months
Grant conditions
If your application is successful, the property must either be:
- occupied as a main residence or
- rented out as a main residence
This must be maintained for a minimum of 5 years
Additional conditions may apply, including:
- Repayment of the grant if conditions are not met
- Requirements around the standard of works completed

What happens next
Once you contact us:
- We will review your enquiry
- You will be advised whether you can submit a full application
- We may require to come and inspect your property
- If approved, funding will be offered subject to terms and conditions
