Adverts for community events permit

Roadside adverts guidance

Community groups and charities may apply to display temporary signage on road verges to promote short-duration events such as Highland Games or local festivals.

Eligibility

Only events organised by properly constituted groups or registered charities are eligible, and events must be short-term in nature.

Conditions for approval

Liability

The sign owner must indemnify the Council against any third-party claims. This means you accept full responsibility for any damage or injury caused by your signage.

Insurance

You must hold public liability insurance of at least £5 million. A copy of your insurance certificate must be submitted with your application and remain valid throughout the signage period.

Approval

All signs and proposed locations must be approved by the Area Roads Operations Manager.

Timing

Signs may be displayed up to 8 days before the event and must be removed within 2 days after the event.

Contact information

Your contact details must be clearly displayed on the back of each sign.

Signage restrictions

You must ensure that:

  • no signs are attached to street furniture (such as railings or lamp posts)
  • large events expecting high traffic volumes have applied for official temporary direction signage (such as AA signs)

Important notice

Failure to comply with these conditions may result in the immediate removal of signage and withdrawal of permission.
