We are planning to replace two bridges on the road between Inverie and Airor on the Knoydart peninsula. The two bridges are Aultvoulin (or Mill Burn) and Sandaig.

Temporary road closures will be required at each bridge during the works. We will provide updates, including the expected dates of the works.

Contact our Structures Team if you have any further questions.

Updates

Update 9 June 2026

The start of the road closure at Millburn Bridge has been delayed.  The road closure will now commence at midday on Wednesday, 10 June.

Update 8 June 2026

The first road closure at Millburn Bridge, Aultvoulin, is planned to start on Tuesday 9 June at 10am. The road will remain closed for three to six weeks. After the road is reopened at Millburn Bridge, the road will be closed at Sandaig Bridge. The road closure dates for Sandaig Bridge have not yet been confirmed.

During the closure, a free shuttle will run daily around Inverie ferry times, starting 45 minutes before arrivals and ending 45 minutes after departures. It serves both road closures and Inverie Pier, with walk-up or booking available (07960 882988).

Update 24 March 2026

We have received back tenders for the bridge replacement works at Knoydart and are currently in the process of evaluating the tenders. There is not yet an agreed programme for the works, but we can confirm that no road closure will take place before Monday 27th of April. We expect to provide a further update in early April.

Tenders issued 11 February 2026

Tenders were issued for the works at the start of February. Contract award is expected around mid-March. A letter containing more details of the project has been posted to all residents in and around Inverie, Sandaig, Airor and Inverguseran.

The exact dates and times of the works have not yet been confirmed. The works are expected to take place between 7 April and 30 June 2026.

A further update to this page is expected later in March.
