A890 Stromeferry bypass

Since the A890 Stromeferry bypass opened to traffic in 1970, we have been actively monitoring the condition of the adjacent rock face to ensure the safety of road and rail users. To reduce the risk of falling rocks, extensive netting has been installed across much of the slope.

We work closely with specialist consultants, AECOM Infrastructure and Environment Ltd, who have been advising on the rock slope condition since 2012. They carry out detailed annual inspections and provide expert recommendations for any necessary maintenance or safety measures.

These comprehensive reports support our own routine inspections, which are carried out daily and monthly by our roadside teams.

Stromeferry rockworks phase 13 - winter 2024-2025

These works are now complete and further monitoring and assessment will take place before the next planned works in 2026-2027.
