If you need to park your vehicle in a restricted location for construction or similar works, you may be eligible to apply for a parking dispensation. This allows your vehicle to remain in the area for up to 1 hour, strictly for operational needs.
Note that dispensations are not granted for general parking or convenience.
If your planned works require occupying a location for more than one working day, you will need to request a formal suspension of the bay or restriction. This requires 7 days’ advance notice.
Reserve parking bays for planned works
The dispensation is intended for vehicles that are essential to the operation and must be positioned at the location.
Alternative short-term access
You may also request access for the hours of:
- 8am to 9am
- 5pm to 6pm
These time slots are intended for loading or unloading of materials, tools, or equipment.
Where dispensations apply
Dispensations may be granted for:
- single and double yellow lines
- loading bays
- permit bays (outside of loading prohibition times, as indicated on local signage)
Double yellow lines with double blip kerb markings are not covered.
Important conditions
Note that:
- dispensations are issued to specific vehicles and are non-transferable
- they do not permit general parking and must only be used for the stated purpose
- once the work is complete, the vehicle must be removed from the restricted area
- misuse may result in a Penalty Charge Notice
Dispensations will not be issued for:
- convenience or free parking
- loading during restricted periods
- pay and display bays
- disabled bays
- car club bays
- school restrictions
- bus stops or taxi ranks
- pavements or footways
- locations causing obstruction
- applications with questionable validity
Tradespeople or contractors must demonstrate that their vehicle is essential to the work (such as carrying a generator or hoses). Simply needing nearby parking is not sufficient.
