Decisions on planning applications

How planning decisions are made

Decisions on planning applications are required to be made in accordance with the development plan unless material considerations indicate otherwise. Each application therefore requires to be assessed on its own merit.

Further information on material considerations can be found in Planning Circular 3/2013: Development Management Procedures.

The Highland Council also offers a pre-application service which provides guidance on the issues which will require consideration as part of the planning application process. There is a fee for this value-added service.
