Leaving your house in good condition
Inside the home
Make sure the inside of your home is clean and clear:
- remove all furniture, rubbish and personal belongings
- clean the whole property
- empty and clean kitchen cupboards, shelves and units
- clean the kitchen sink, taps and draining board
- wipe down worktops and tiles
- remove appliances like cookers and fridges
- clean the bathroom sink, bath, shower and taps
- clean and flush the toilet
- clear and clean bathroom cupboards
- sweep, mop or vacuum all floors
- dust or wipe skirting boards
- clean windows and wipe windowsills
- clear loft, cupboards and fitted wardrobes
- remove light shades
- remove curtain tracks, poles and blinds (unless agreed to leave them)
- clear rubbish from communal areas, sheds and garages
- leave window lock keys
- check for holes in walls – small holes from pins or hooks are fine
- make sure internal doors are in good condition
- check electrical switches, sockets and light fittings are working
- check for cracks or breaks in glass
- check skirting boards and door surrounds are in good condition
- remove polystyrene tiles or coving, and any untreated wall cladding
Outside the home
If you have a garden, make sure you do the following:
- clear all rubbish
- cut the grass
- trim trees and bushes to a reasonable size
- remove sheds or garages and their bases, unless agreed to leave them
- repair any damage caused by removing satellite dishes
- empty all wheeled bins
Leaving improvements
You can leave the following items if they meet our standards and are agreed with us:
- any improvements we gave you permission to make, like showers
- curtain tracks, poles, blinds and carpets if they are in good condition and agreed with the Maintenance Officer
If items are not agreed or do not meet our standard, we will remove them and charge you.
