Garden aid for elderly or disabled council tenants

Garden Aid

The scheme supports elderly or disabled council tenants who need help keeping their gardens tidy. This helps tenants meet the conditions of their tenancy agreement.

The service includes grass cutting during the growing season (usually April to October). Work is carried out by approved contractors from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm.

Who can apply

To be eligible, you must meet all three of the following:

  • be over 60 years old or be receiving Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • be receiving Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit
  • have no able-bodied person living with you or nearby who can do the garden work

Applications closed for 2025/26

The Garden Aid Scheme is not accepting new applications for the 2025/26 year.
