Rabies is a serious disease that can spread to humans and animals. It is not found in the UK, but illegal imports could introduce it.

Pet Travel Scheme (PETS)

The Pet Travel Scheme allows dogs, cats and ferrets to enter Britain without quarantine if:

  • they travel through approved entry points
  • they come from qualifying countries
  • they meet all health and documentation rules

Pets must:

  • be vaccinated against rabies
  • have correct paperwork
  • be treated for specific parasites
