Becoming a British Citizen

If you want to apply for British Citizenship, you will need to first contact the Home Office.

You can find guidance and apply online at GOV.UK British Citizenship

Citizenship ceremony

A citizenship ceremony is the final part of becoming a British citizen. Every successful applicant aged over 18 must attend a ceremony to receive their Certificate of Naturalisation.

Children under 18 who applied with their parents may attend to collect their Certificate of Registration.

What happens at the ceremony?

Highland citizenship ceremonies are carried out by a Registrar. Applicants are required to:

  • swear an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to His Majesty the King
  • take a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom
