You can find guidance and apply online at GOV.UK British Citizenship
Citizenship ceremony
A citizenship ceremony is the final part of becoming a British citizen. Every successful applicant aged over 18 must attend a ceremony to receive their Certificate of Naturalisation.
Children under 18 who applied with their parents may attend to collect their Certificate of Registration.
What happens at the ceremony?
Highland citizenship ceremonies are carried out by a Registrar. Applicants are required to:
- swear an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance to His Majesty the King
- take a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom
When to contact us
You should only contact us once you have been notified by the Home Office that your application has been approved.
Your letter will tell you who to contact to arrange your ceremony.
Where and when ceremonies take place
We hold group ceremonies at various locations across Highland on set monthly dates.
Where possible, the Lord Lieutenant, Provost or a Council Representative will attend.
Private ceremonies
You can request a private ceremony for you and your guests. This is available for an additional charge.
Speak to the Registration Office to discuss your requirements.
