What the rules cover
Buildings must meet certain standards to be safe, healthy and energy efficient.
- some standards apply to all buildings
- others apply only in certain situations
How we check your application
We use the Scottish Building Standards technical handbooks to help us decide if your plans meet the rules.
You do not have to follow the handbook exactly. If you use a different method, we will check if it still meets the purpose of the standards.
