Community transport

Community transport provides essential travel options for people who may find it difficult to use conventional public transport. These services are especially important in rural or remote areas and help improve access to healthcare, shopping, social activities, and other vital services.

Who benefits from community transport?

Community transport supports:

  • older adults
  • people with disabilities
  • individuals on low incomes
  • residents in areas with limited public transport

The aim is to promote social inclusion and independence by helping people stay connected to their communities.

Local initiatives

Across the Highlands, community-led transport projects give residents a direct role in shaping services that meet local needs. The Transport Co-ordination Unit supports these efforts through the Community Transport Grant Fund. (Note: applications are currently closed.)
