Improving Access to Inverness City Centre
We explored ways to make it easier for residents, businesses and visitors to travel into and around Inverness city centre.
Our goal was to deliver a modern, sustainable transport system that supports greener travel and reduces reliance on private cars.
What we set out to do
- Prioritise buses, especially at busy junctions and congestion hotspots
- Make it easier to use more than one type of transport on a single journey (multi-modal travel)
- Provide realistic alternatives to car travel for residents and visitors
Working in partnership
We worked with transport consultants WSP and other partners to support Scotland’s climate goals by helping people reduce their carbon emissions through better public transport options.
Project aims
- Increase the number of people travelling by bus to, from and through Inverness
- Reduce car dependence in suburbs and smaller towns
- Improve the sustainability of routes into the city centre
