Overview
To help make bus services in Inverness more reliable and on time, Highland Council has upgraded traffic lights at key junctions across the city.
How it works
New technology has been installed at 20 traffic light junctions. These upgraded lights can now respond to real-time information sent from ticket machines on Stagecoach buses.
When a bus is running late or needs priority, the traffic lights can adjust to help it move through the junction more quickly.
Progress so far
- The first 20 junctions were successfully upgraded and activated on 28 February 2023.
- Highland Council has identified 6 more junctions for future upgrades.
- Funding is currently being sought to complete these additional improvements.
These upgrades are part of wider efforts to improve public transport and reduce delays in the city centre.
