Duty of care for waste
All self-catering businesses must follow the duty of care rules. This means handling waste responsibly and using the right services.
You must:
- keep waste safe and secure
- make sure it is collected by a registered waste carrier
- or carry your waste to a licensed waste site
If you carry your own waste, you must register with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and complete a waste transfer note for each load.
You must not:
- use public litter bins for business waste
- use household bins or recycling centres unless you have a contract with us
