Care experienced children and young people
Care Experienced
The term Care Experienced is a non-statutory umbrella term for children, young people and adults who:
- are currently or were previously Looked After at home with a Legal Statute (Scotland)
- are currently or were previously Looked After away from home with a Legal Statute (including kinship under Section 25)
- are currently or were previously living in kinship away from home without a Legal Statute (Non Looked After)
Looked After
The term Looked After is a statutory term for Looked After Children and Young People who are:
- Provided with accommodation by a local authority under Section 25
- Subject to a Supervision Requirement made by a Children’s Hearing
- Subject to an Order, Authorisation or Warrant by a Justice of the Peace, Children’s Hearing or Sheriff
- Living in Scotland and subject to an order in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
- Subject to a Permanence Order after an application to the Local Authority
Provided with accommodation
Accommodation provided could include living:
- with family and friends
- in a foster home
- in a residential home
