Climate change

Climate change is a major global challenge and as the Earth's climate patterns change, the atmosphere, oceans, land and nature are all affected.

The main cause of climate change is extra heat trapped in the Earth by greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane.

Climate change is not just an environmental issue. It has wide-ranging ecological, environmental, social and economic impacts. It will affect organisations, businesses, communities, infrastructure and everyday life - including here in Highland.

What we are doing

In line with the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009, we are aiming to:

  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the region
  • implement measures to adapt to a changing climate
  • work in a sustainable way
