Climate change

Net Zero strategy

Our response to the climate emergency is detailed in our Our Net Zero strategy. It focuses on reducing emissions and preparing for the unavoidable impacts of climate change.

As a public body, we are legally required to contribute to Scotland’s Net Zero target by 2045.

Our strategy includes a route map to Net Zero by 2045. It sets key interim targets to reduce emissions by at least:

  • 75% by 2030
  • 90% by 2040

Key areas of focus

We are working across the Council to:

  • improve energy efficiency across our estate
  • identify and develop opportunities from renewable energy generation
  • rationalise our fleet and replace vehicles with low-emission alternatives
  • reduce waste
  • embed circular economy principles into Council operations
  • embed climate change into decision-making processes
  • deliver an internal communications and engagement strategy to support the Net Zero Strategy

Action Plan

A detailed and costed Action Plan will outline the workstreams to be implemented across the Council to help deliver our net zero ambition.
