What the committee does

The Audit Committee advises and scrutinises the council’s audit and governance processes.

Its remit includes:

  • advising the council on the programme of internal and external audit work, including findings and recommendations from audit reports
  • performing a scrutiny role through a workplan approved by the council, and dealing with matters referred for scrutiny
  • advising the council on issues arising from complaints to the Ombudsman and other complaints systems relevant to council services
  • advising the council on the implementation of the Councillors’ Code of Conduct and issues arising from the Ethical Standards in Public Life etc. (Scotland) Act 2000 and other relevant legislation
  • scrutinising actions agreed by strategic committees in response to findings and recommendations from national reports by scrutiny bodies
