What the committee does
The Caithness Committee is a local decision-making body that supports community planning and oversees the delivery of council services in the Caithness area.

Its remit includes:
- appointing the Chair of the Local Committee and, where appropriate, a Civic Leader
- supporting the local community planning partnership
- implementing the Council’s localism action plan in Caithness
- scrutinising and monitoring local delivery of Council services within approved resources and strategy
- engaging with and scrutinising the performance of Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service
- monitoring the delivery of Council Capital Projects in Caithness, as agreed in the Council’s Capital Programme
- approving delegated local functions, including:
- road traffic orders
- road construction consents
- upholding access rights
- championing local initiatives that promote Highland languages, heritage and culture
- making nominations and appointments to local outside bodies not covered by the Council or Strategic Committees, such as Local Access Forums
- agreeing local community engagement, including Ward Forums related to Council business
- considering proposals for community participation and the transfer of functions to community management or ownership, in line with Council policies and guidance from the Communities and Partnerships Committee
- ensuring all decisions comply with legislation and the Council’s approved Scheme of Delegation
