What the committee does
The Highland Licensing Committee oversees the council’s licensing responsibilities under several key pieces of legislation.

Its remit includes:
- overseeing the council’s functions as licensing authority under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982
- carrying out consultations on behalf of the council under the 1982 Act
- formulating and approving licensing policy and standard conditions for licences granted under the 1982 Act
- setting fees and charges for licence applications under the 1982 Act
- approving proposals on behalf of the council for contracts for services related to obligations under the 1982 Act
- overseeing the council’s responsibilities for maintaining a register of private landlords under Part 8 of the Antisocial Behaviour etc. (Scotland) Act 2004
- overseeing the council’s responsibilities for licensing houses in multiple occupation under Part 5 of the Housing (Scotland) Act 2006
- formulating and approving standard conditions for licences granted under the 2006 Act
- setting fees under Section 161 of the 2006 Act
