Description

A Personal Licence in Scotland is a legal requirement for individuals who want to authorise the sale of alcohol on licensed premises.

A Personal Licence allows an individual to:

  • supervise or authorise the sale of alcohol.
  • ensure that alcohol sales are conducted legally and responsibly.
  • act as the Designated Premises Manager (DPM) for a licensed venue
Fees and duration

Personal licences are issued for 10 years.

However, you must undertake refresher training within 5 years of the date of issue of your personal licence.

You must produce evidence of this training to us within three months of 5 years from when the personal licence was issued.

Conditions and requirements

To apply for a personal licence in Scotland, you must:

  • be at least 18 years old
  • hold a Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH) - an accredited licensing qualification
  • not have had a personal licence revoked in the past 5 years
  • not have any relevant criminal convictions

  • to have completed renewal and refresher training guidance
  • a credit or debit card
  • two photos of applicant
