Cat breeding - Apply for a licence

Description

Anyone breeding 3 or more litters of kittens in any 12-month period must be licensed. This requirement applies regardless of whether the breeder sells or otherwise supplies a kitten as a pet to another person.

You must apply for your licence and have it issued before your third litter is born in any rolling 12-month period. If you know you will exceed 2 litres in any rolling 12-month period, then we encourage you to apply for your licence as soon as possible.

Fees and duration

Licences are valid for 1, 2 or 3 years from date of issue. This is based on any report submitted by an inspector and all other risk factors. Applicants have no say on licence duration.

The fee is fixed and does not change based on how long the licence is valid. This is because the fee covers administrative costs, which remain the same.
