Council Tax Reduction

How Council Tax Reduction is calculated

When you apply, we assess your:

  • income (including earnings, pensions, and benefits)
  • savings and capital (such as bank accounts, investments, or property you do not live in)
  • household size and who lives with you
  • age and any disabilities or caring responsibilities

We use this information to calculate how much help you can get. The reduction is worked out on a sliding scale; that is, the lower your income, the more help you may receive.

If you receive Universal Credit, your Council Tax Reduction is calculated differently. You should still apply using the same form.
