Digital

We are working to make the Highlands the most digitally connected rural region in Europe. This project is part of the City-Region Deal and focuses on improving:

  • superfast broadband coverage
  • mobile connectivity
  • digital access for residents
  • digital adoption by businesses

The project is supported by £20 million in funding from the UK Government.

What we are doing

We are identifying and developing ways to extend digital coverage across the Highlands. This includes:

  • planning new infrastructure to support superfast broadband and mobile networks
  • working with communities and businesses to understand local needs
  • aligning with national programmes like the Scottish Government’s R100 initiative

Why this matters

Improved digital connectivity helps:

  • residents access services and stay connected
  • businesses grow and compete
  • communities become more resilient and sustainable
