Project progress

We are currently in the planning phase of the programme. This work has been influenced by the Scottish Government’s R100 (Reaching 100%) programme, which aims to deliver superfast broadband to every premises in Scotland.

We are reviewing how R100 affects our plans and ensuring our approach complements national efforts.

Once planning is complete, we will submit an outline business case to the UK Government for approval.

Completed work

An early part of the programme was the Highland Wi-Fi project, which is now complete. It provides free public Wi-Fi in:

  • Inverness city centre
  • 14 other towns and settlements across the Highlands

This project has improved digital access for residents, visitors and businesses.

Funding

  • £20 million from the UK Government as part of the City Region Deal

Project lead

  • Andrea Rutherford, Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)
