What we are doing
Assisted living technology
We are building on a prototype digital solution that supports independent living. This includes:
- remote health monitoring
- data sharing with health professionals
- tools to support carers and families
We are working with partners to improve the system’s capacity and reliability, with the aim of developing products that can be commercialised through a new social enterprise.
Modular homes
FIT Homes are:
- built using adaptable, low-carbon modular construction
- designed to meet the needs of older people and veterans
- equipped with integrated digital health technology
Digital solution development
We’ve made significant progress on the FIT Homes digital system. In partnership with NHS Highland and the University of the Highlands and Islands, we held 3 co-production workshops with residents and stakeholders to:
- identify essential and desirable features
- explore accessibility and usability
- address data security and sharing concerns
These workshops helped prioritise features that will deliver the most value to residents, families, carers and health professionals.
Housing development
Progress on new-build FIT Homes was delayed due to various factors, but momentum increased toward the end of the year:
- planning issues at the Nairn site are close to resolution
- a site for the veterans’ cluster has been acquired
- construction is expected to begin on both sites during 2019–20, with completion in 2020–21
- positive discussions are ongoing with stakeholders in several other locations, especially in the north Highlands
