Inspiring STEM learning in the Highlands
The Science Skills Academy (SSA) is working to increase the number of young people in the Highlands choosing to study Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects.
The project aims to help young people take advantage of growing career opportunities in:
- life sciences
- renewable energy
- digital technologies
SSA is part of the City-Region Deal and is supported by £3 million in funding from the Scottish Government.
What we are doing
The project is delivering:
- 5 Newton Rooms across the Highlands
- hands-on STEM learning activities based on a successful Norwegian model
- local partnerships to support community involvement
- a team of STEM engagement staff working with schools
