Food (Promotion and Placement) (Scotland) Regulations 2025

Regulations came into force 1 October 2026 which prevents large food businesses from placing High in Fat, Sugar or Salt products in easy-to-grab spots. Price promotions in High in Fat, Sugar or Salt and other less healthy products are also restricted.

The regulations were designed to address the obesity and public health problems throughout Scotland. They aim to encourage healthier food and drink choices by reducing the consumption of High in Fat, Sugar or Salt products and other less healthy products. In the regulations these are referred to as 'specified food'.

The regulations apply in two ways. Price promotion restrictions affect both online and physical stores, while product placement restrictions only affect physical stores.
