Gaelic Language Plan

Gaelic Language Plan 2024-2029

Gaelic language is an intrinsic part of the culture, economy, and identity of the Highland area. We play a significant role in strengthening Gaelic through education, leisure and sport, visitor and tourism sectors, the creative industries and a breadth of Gaelic and cultural community activities.

Our Gaelic Language Plan (GLP) was approved by Bòrd na Gàidhlig on 7 May 2024 and sets out our vision for Gaelic in the Highland Council area. The actions within the plan will enable us to grow and develop our work in Gaelic and cultural development over the five-year lifespan of the GLP.

This plan builds on the achievements of our three previous GLPs and strengthens the targeted outcomes. We also confirm our commitment to enhance the delivery of the National Gaelic Language Plan by supporting the main aims of increasing the use and learning of Gaelic.
