Care experienced children and young people

Care Experienced

The term Care Experienced is a non-statutory umbrella term for children, young people and adults who:

  • are currently or were previously Looked After at home with a Legal Statute (Scotland)
  • are currently or were previously Looked After away from home with a Legal Statute (including kinship under Section 25)
  • are currently or were previously living in kinship away from home without a Legal Statute (Non Looked After)

Looked After

The term Looked After is a statutory term for Looked After Children and Young People who are:

  • Provided with accommodation by a local authority under Section 25
  • Subject to a Supervision Requirement made by a Children’s Hearing
  • Subject to an Order, Authorisation or Warrant by a Justice of the Peace, Children’s Hearing or Sheriff
  • Living in Scotland and subject to an order in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
  • Subject to a Permanence Order after an application to the Local Authority

Provided with accommodation

Accommodation provided could include living:

  • with family and friends
  • in a foster home
  • in a residential home
