Book a bulky uplift

What to do with items we cannot collect

If we cannot collect your item through the bulky uplift service, there are other ways to reuse or recycle it. This helps reduce waste, protect the environment, and support your local community.

Take it to a recycling centre

You can take items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC):

  • it is free for household waste
  • sites accept furniture, white goods, electricals, and more
  • check what your local site accepts before you go

Find your nearest Recycling Centre

Donate items in good condition

If your item is clean and working, consider donating it. Many charities and reuse organisations accept:

  • sofas and chairs
  • tables and wardrobes
  • working fridges, freezers, and washing machines
  • TVs and small electricals

Some charities can collect items from your home:

Use a licensed waste carrier

If you hire someone to take your waste away, it is your responsibility to make sure they are a registered waste carrier. This helps prevent fly-tipping and illegal dumping.

You should:

  • ask to see their SEPA registration
  • get a receipt or waste transfer note

Try to repair or upcycle

Before throwing something away, ask:

  • can it be repaired
  • could someone else use it
  • could it be turned into something new

Local repair cafes and community groups may be able to help.
