Making changes to a listed building
Listed buildings are protected because of their special architectural or historic importance. They are designated by Historic Environment Scotland.
What listing includes
All listed buildings are protected inside and out. This includes:
- anything physically attached to the building
- boundary walls, gates and gate piers
- outbuildings and other related structures
The list does not describe everything that is protected.
